Cheating: What to do if you see it
In building FitRankings, we have created a platform that is transparent around a community of good-will. We are always striving to create an accurate, honest, solution that prevents cheating, but there is no perfect way to prevent the occasional bad apple wants to mis-report activity.
The good news: We have built-in intelligence to remove double activity counting, and inhuman activity reporting (ie. more than 200 miles of running in a day...who can do that?!?!).
The bad news: People who want to cheat, can cheat :( We allow users to manually enter their activity so they could false report. Additionally, people could just as easily take their phone in their car and fake a GPS route. There is no perfect systematic way to prevent someone who is motivated to cheat.
What we suggest: If you see something fishy, post a friendly comment on the activity that is in question (extra points for humor). That will alert the person to the issue, and give them a chance to correct it. Most of the time it is an accident.
Example of an ideal post: ("Hey johnny nice work in the challenge, did you really run 58 miles? Cause that is impressive! If not, could you do us a solid and adjust the activity. Thanks buddy!")
In addition, you can report an individual's activity by clicking on the three dots in the bottom right corner of their activity. This will give you the option to "report" their activity, and will further bring you to the page featured below to provide additional information regarding the activity. This report will get sent to our support team who will take a further look into the activity and assess the situation.
